Monteverde Excitement

OK Lisa spill the news!!! and no you do NOT remember the road, if the pot holes were every 16 inches that would be GREAT, try every millimetre!!!

Yesterday, on the 11th, we went to Selvatura Park for a guided hike through the cloud forest , although we only saw a red tailed squirrel as far as mammals, we did see some amazing birds and beautiful plants, everywhere you looked. Our tour was a couple of hours long with a great guide, Brian · not a very Costa Rican name, but he was very knowledgeable and patient. He wanted us to see as much as we could.

After the guided hike, we wandered through the hummingbird garden · amazing birds and so many different varieties. I think (hope) we got some amazing shots!!

After this we hiked uphill about 500 meters (trust me it seemed like alot further) to the Santa Elana Cloud Forest Reserve and went on a 4.5 km hike ourselves. Rough terrain, mud, foliage and many birds, but again, no mammals that we could see. Beautiful spot though · would highly recommend it if anyone gets a chance to go there.

After a very tiring day, we headed back to our Cabina which is a great spot. It has a separate bedroom and a full kitchen so we cooked last night · spaghetti and wine!! MMMMMM

This morning (the 12th), we got up a little later about 7AM and took our time getting ready. After a nice breakfast of eggs and bacon with some fresh mango (again prepared at ¨home¨) we headed back to Selventura for an exciting hours of zip lining · I should add a private tour of zip lining as we were the only ones there at the time. After being harnessed up in places I´ve never been harnessed before I might add, we headed into the forest for the first of 11 zip lines, not including one Tarzan Swing!! It was GREAT!!! What a thrill. The longest line was 800 meters and 100 meters high! WHAT A VIEW!!! The Tarzan swing was about 60 feet high · while strapped to a rope, you walk off the platform, free fall for about 45 feet then swing out!!! Crazy thrill that was! But despite all this, I still don´t think I could bungee or skydive!! We got some good pics of each other zipping across.

After this a quick trip to the bakery for some sandwiches then off to the Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Reserve. We hiked for about 3 hours and even stood on top of the Continental Divide · what a view! Amazing!! The the clouds rolled in · WOW! Beautiful!!

Again we say tons of foliage, flowers and birds and were even luck enough to get some pics of the birds. In viewing my pictures, I THINK I got a pic of a monkey face looking at us from the distance. It´s a little hard to tell but we both think it was. Hopefully!

Now we are sitting in a little cafe typing. Dinner at home again tonight · left overs from last night and dinner out at Moon Shiva the other night · nice restaurant, then tomorrow we are off to the Pacific Coast. We are not sure where we will stay tomorrow night but hope to find something small near Jaco. Then it´s off to Quepos for 3 nights before heading back to San Jose.

Chat later folks!

Yes Lisa...please do tell!!!

Sounds like you guys are having a great time. I can't believe you dared into the world of zip lining. Who knew you guys were that adventurous? Can't wait to see those pics.

I'm glad you're having a great time while we in TO are waiting for our big snow storm to hit tomorrow afternoon. You guys picked the best 2 weeks to be away. Not only have you missed all the freezing weather but now you'll be missing our first (and maybe only) snow storm of the winter. I say you guys come back early and shovel my driveway!!!

Enjoy the Pacific Coast!!
